About me

I have a background in education and research (Ancient History) but my first love is writing. Since becoming a parent, I have focused increasingly on children’s writing. I enjoy writing heart-warming, quirky picture-book stories as well as longer works too. I draw inspiration from the natural world—the sea, the seasons and animals, both domestic and wild. Many of my stories are intrusion fantasies where a little bit of magic finds its way into an otherwise ordinary, everyday existence.

On my writing journey I have been longlisted for the Bath Flash Fiction competition (2018). My story ‘Human traffic’ was published in their Anthology Things Left and Found Beside the Road (2018). One of my short stories won the Book Links short story competition in 2019 and another was short listed in 2024. I have also written short articles for Kids Book Review (‘On Picture Book Persuasion’ 19 August 2021) and Buzz Words E-mag (‘The Power of Picture Book Dedications’ 1 December 2020) as well as completing writing courses with the AWC and Writing NSW. I am a member of SCWBI and the CBCA.

About My Cats

We have two furry family members and their names are Timsy Crumpet and Albert. They are siblings and arrived at our house when they were approximately 6 months old in 2019. They are the sweetest cats you can ever imagine though like most apex predators they enjoy a good play fight. They are indoor cats so when no-one else is around I let them into the study where they nose about in boxes and bookshelves and generally inspire my cat characters and some human ones too.

This is Albert enjoying some study time.

This is Timsy Crumpet in play fight mode.
